Ponies

Shetland ponies originate off the coast of Scotland and evolved in very harsh conditions.  They have stayed small due to their environment and scarce food sources.  Their bodies are small, about 28-42” at its withers, however they are very strong and hardy for their size. Shetlands are friendly, loyal and intelligent, which can also lead to stubbornness!  For food, they graze in pastures of grass or eat hay.  They need about 1.5 pounds of food for each 100 pounds of body weight.  Like other herd animals, they like to live with other ponies.  The average Shetland will live about 25 years, but have been know to live longer.
